Cabinet BracingĪ solid platform is imperative for great sound. Using computational fluid dynamics the flare and profile of each port is calculated to delay the onset of turbulence and the flexible port walls prevent resonances from coloring the midrange. The R Series ports have innovative flexible walls. When it comes to generating deep, articulate bass, port design is crucial. KEF has also increased linearity in the magnet system which means more impressive and impactful bass. Combine this stiffness with the cone’s unique geometry and you get near pistonic movement for punch and speed.
KEF Q SERIES 6.5 2 WAY BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS DRIVERS
R Series bass drivers have a two-part structure with a shallow concave aluminum skin atop a paper cone. The result is vastly improved fine detail. The treble escapes naturally because the ‘shadow region’ stops it getting to the cabinet edges. It's a carefully profiled transition that extends the waveguide effect of Uni-Q. The Shadow Flare is an innovative way to cut harmful high frequency cabinet diffraction. The result is purer and more precise sound with stronger imaging. Using simulation and analysis tools KEF’s engineers have been able to dramatically reduce coloration by cutting resonance in the tiny gaps between Uni-Q’s elements.

Uni-Q’s ultra-wide dispersion is further enhanced through KEF’s ‘tangerine’ waveguide over the tweeter dome. The evolution of KEF's Uni-Q driver reaches its 12th generation in the R Series. The result is a more detailed, accurate three-dimensional sound image, which is dispersed more evenly throughout the room than is possible with any conventional speaker. The signature innovation places the tweeter in the acoustic centre of the midrange and bass cone, bringing the acoustic ideal of a single point source closer than ever to realisation.

With the addition of the damped tweeter loading tube providing a gentle termination of sound produced from the back of the tweeter, lower treble performance is improved dramatically and a new low-distortion inductor on the crossover provides cleaner bass.Īt the heart of the evolved Q Series is the Uni-Q driver array. To optimise the high-resolution purity of the Q Series bookshelf speakers, the Uni-Q driver is repositioned to the center of the cabinet to reduce unwanted internal resonance and adding refinement to sonic clarity and detail.
